Exploring the local Sasak Culture of West- Middle – East and North Lombok, full day
We pick you up from your hotel at 8.00 am and drive first to Gungung Sari where you can see bamboo carving. Here the locals make many furnitures made from bamboo and the traditional outside guestroom for the locals, called beruga. From Gunung Sari we continue to Karang Bayan Village, where the locals making all kind of things of grass/ rotan such as placemats, bowls, tissue boxes and so on.
From here we continue to Sembalun, North-east Lombok, a ride of about 4 hours. On the way we are passing many beautiful rice fields, local daily markets and locals selling local traditional food, such as bantal. The bantal is originally coming from East Lombok and very famous all over Lombok. Bantal is a package of steamed palm leaves, filled with white rice in combination with banana or red beans. You must try some! Our next stop is Sembalun. Here we can see agriculture of red onions, garlic, potatoes, carrots, cabbages, strawberries and so on. Sembalun supplies all the more to the east situated islands of Lombok of these goods. We can have a break at the strawberry farm and if we are in the season you can pick up your strawberries yourself. For your lunch we’ll find some local restaurant here.
We are now at the bottom of the Rinjani leg and having a beautiful view to this enormous mountain. After lunch we drive about 1 hour to Bayan, Traditional Village where we can see the first Mosque in Lombok, Masjid Kuno and the locals making handwoven fabrics (Tenun). After that we drive back to Senggigi area and have a break at Nipah Beach to enjoy sunset time. At Nipah Beach we have an astonishing view over the 3-Gili’s and Bali’s Mountain Agung and the locals selling fresh grilled fish. From Nipah Beach we will bring you back to your hotel.
